Project Overview

Korpra delivered an end-to-end automated test stand development project for testing CAM Phasers, enabling operators to select and playback engine profiles with high precision. The application integrated various devices to control system components, including environmental chambers and hydraulic valves — software, hardware specification, and integration delivered as one cohesive deliverable.

System Architecture

A PLC sub-system managed the hydraulic valves, while a National Instruments cRIO Real-Time and FPGA system handled data acquisition and ensured accurate engine timing. This dual-architecture allowed precise real-time control alongside deterministic safety interlocking.

Engineering & Automated Modes

The application featured an engineering mode screen for manual control of mechanical aspects during testing and diagnostics, as well as an automated test section where operators could use Excel to create, modify, and recall test recipes. This Excel-driven recipe model is a configurable test system architecture in practice — engineers can spin up new test profiles without involving the software team. Programming knowledge is not a prerequisite for creating new test sequences.
