Test System for Heavy-Duty Industrial Actuators

Real-time cRIO platform with EtherCAT control evaluating large industrial mechanical actuators with vibration analysis and high-voltage safety measures.

Published December 2018

Project Overview

The test system is designed to evaluate large industrial mechanical actuators, leveraging the National Instruments CompactRIO (cRIO) platform for robust real-time performance and reliability. Utilizing EtherCAT communications, the system efficiently controls the actuator, collects vibration data, and conducts advanced signal analysis to assess actuator performance.

Safety Architecture

Due to the high current and voltage demands of the actuators under test, the system incorporates critical safety measures, relying on the cRIO's real-time capabilities to ensure consistent operation and protect both equipment and personnel. The deterministic nature of the cRIO platform was essential to implementing reliable interlocks at the hardware level.

Analysis & Reporting

Comprehensive reports are generated to provide actionable insights from the data. This setup delivers precise, dependable testing for heavy-duty industrial applications, including vibration signature analysis and performance benchmarking under load conditions.
