Transformer Health Monitoring Test System

Automated 20-minute test station validating all electronics and firmware of high-voltage transformer health monitoring devices using NI cDAQ and serial API.

Published May 2024

Project Overview

Developed a test station engineered to evaluate a high-voltage transformer health monitoring device, conducting a comprehensive 20-minute test that assesses all electronics and firmware functionality. The interface to the device is serial communications with an advanced API, and commands were issued to collect extensive data throughout the process for detailed analysis.

Precision Timing & Calibration

A National Instruments cDAQ counter-timer module generates precise timing signals essential for calibrating a critical component on the device, ensuring accuracy and reliability. This precision timing capability was a key requirement for validating the device's internal clock reference used in field deployments.

Validation & Results

This robust setup verifies performance, captures critical operational data, and supports thorough validation of the health monitoring system used in high-voltage transformer applications. Test results are logged for traceability and compliance with industry standards for electrical equipment validation.
